I Skated the Albir Beach Strip — Here's Why It's My Favourite Hidden Gem on the Costa Blanca

The Costa Blanca gets a lot of attention for the bigger names Benidorm, Alicante, Calpe but tucked quietly between them is a stretch of coastline I keep coming back to: Albir. It's smaller, calmer, and feels a lot more local than its neighbours, but it has everything you'd want from a Spanish beach day. A long promenade, that perfect mix of sand and stones underfoot, and views that genuinely make you stop and stare.

I've been to Albir more times than I can count, and on this trip I wanted to do something a little different I brought my roller skates. The Albir promenade stretches from Albir to Altea, and it is honestly one of the most beautiful places to skate, walk, or just slowly wander. If you're planning a trip to the Costa Blanca, this is the strip I want you to add to your itinerary, and here's exactly why.

Getting There

Albir is super easy to reach if you're already in the area. It sits right between Benidorm and Altea, so a short bus or taxi from either will get you there in under twenty minutes. If you're flying in, Alicante Airport is your closest option, about a 45-minute drive up the coast. I always recommend renting a car if you can, because it makes exploring the smaller towns along the Costa Blanca so much easier, but Albir itself is very walkable once you're there.

Skating the Promenade

This is the heart of the whole experience. The Albir promenade is wide, smooth, and lined with palm trees, and it stretches far enough that you can make a proper afternoon of it without ever getting bored.

I decided to skate this time because it had been a while, and I wanted to practise a little

before getting too confident. What I love about this stretch is that it's so beginner-friendly, the path is flat, the surface is good, and there are plenty of benches and rest spots if you need a break. You don't have to be sporty or fast; you can just go at your own pace and enjoy the view.

The atmosphere is what really makes it, though. You'll see locals walking their dogs, runners getting their morning kilometres in, families on bikes, couples with ice creams, and people just sitting on the wall watching the sea. It's peaceful without being quiet, and it has this lovely, easy energy that I haven't really found anywhere else along the coast.

Staying Right on the Sea

If you want to wake up to a sea view and not have to walk far for anything, Kaktus Hotel is the spot I'd recommend. It sits right on the strip, so the beach is essentially your front garden, and you're surrounded by restaurants, cafés, and shops the moment you step outside. It's not a huge resort-style hotel, which I actually love; it feels more personal, more like a proper Albir stay, and the location genuinely cannot be beaten.

A Detour into Ale-Hop

I can not write about Albir without mentioning Ale-Hop. If you've never been into one before, it's hard to explain. It's a Spanish chain that sells the most random, fun mix of things. Stuffed animals, little gadgets, notebooks, games, kitchen bits, jewellery, you name it. There's a giant cow at the entrance of every store, which has somehow become its trademark.

I always end up wandering in for "just a quick look" and leaving with something I didn't know I needed. This time, it was a notebook that said "go with the flow" on the cover, which, if you know me, is basically my whole personality summed up in one notebook. It felt like a sign.

Where to Eat

After your walk or skate, there are some really lovely restaurants along the beach where you can sit with a sea view and a good plate of food. Zero Zero is probably my favourite: great food, beautiful views, and live music in the evenings, which turns a regular dinner into a proper night out. I'd come here for sunset every time if I could. La Cena is also lovely if you want something slightly more relaxed, with the same easy seaside atmosphere, consistently good food, and the kind of place where you can just sit for hours and watch the world go by.

Why Albir Keeps Pulling Me Back

If you're heading to the Costa Blanca and you want somewhere that feels a little slower, a little more local, and a lot more beautiful than the busier resorts nearby Albir is your answer. The beach strip is the kind of place that doesn't ask much of you. You can skate it, walk it, eat your way along it, or just sit and watch the sea. There's no pressure to do any of it a certain way, and that's exactly what makes it so easy to fall in love with.

Albir has quietly become one of my favourite places on this whole coastline, and every time I leave, I'm already planning the next visit.
